There's an informative article by Jessi Hempel, Innovation Dept. editor for BusinessWeek called Web Strategies that Cater to Customers. Particularly interesting is the chart from Forrester Research that shows what people are doing on the web based on age. I'm a big fan of visual data and this one is worth a look.
Not surprisingly, we find that those who join social networking sites are more often in the 18-26 year old group. Those who read blogs, watch videos and listen to podcasts are represented in most age groups from 12-62+ with the highest in the 18-21 age group.
The key takeaway here is that small businesses need to provide information about their companies in the way their target audiences want to consume them. If you want to engage a younger audience, give them an opportunity to create their own content. If you are targeting a group aged 41-50, perhaps starting a blog is a good way to go. If you know your audience's information preferences, half the battle is won. Forget about what you like, unless you're the customer!

Hi, Added a new value add to my blog this weekend - a news widget from www.widgetmate.com. I always wanted to show latest news for my keywords in my sidebar. It was very easy with this widget. Just a small copy paste and it was done. Great indeed.
